Diversified Appliance Corp model E-122 CFL adapter

Click to view full size image

This was a great adapter for a 22 watt circline. Unfortunately, it burned up, destroying the lamp, starter glow bottle and ballast, as well as the plastic housing. I had been running it for years on a photocell on my shed and using a 20 watt circline lamp. It lasted through about 4 lamps and the one in it when this happened was not @ EOL. Damn sure is now, as both filaments are blasted apart!

Frost PH ballasts, surely the best ones I've seen!

[Completely off-topic] Looks like you have a cut on your finger! Happens too often with me, when I handle broken glass...[/Completely off-topic]

Do you plan to replace the ballast or you'll just salvage usable parts?

I'm also known as Vince the fox.

I still use old lighting technology, it has absolutely no environmental impact, because my house is fed by hydroelectricity. ^_^

LOL Actually I smashed that finger on the gate to my pig lot. I did not realize it showed up in the photo. LOL
Well I am a packrat, so I kept the lamp mounting arm, the screw base socket (Triboro brand) and the 4 wire plug that connects to the lamp. The plastic housing was badly melted, almost completely through.

I love fluorescent lighting, especially "old school" technology and I love diesel engines.

Pretty cool adapter.

Personally i think that all Lamp Bans are idiotic, the idea of telling us we cant use this lamp type just cause its less efficent is highly communist in nature...really what good is it going to do?

@form109, it was a good one! Lasted for years of daily use! I had "modified" the arm to hold a 20 watt circline and it was on its second lamp this way (in at least three years use).

Scary that it failed like that...perhaps windings in the ballast shorted after years of heat buildup? I have been trusting my magnetic CFLs to operate when I'm not home as I don't trust the electronic CFLs at higher wattages (above 11w) and I hope something like this never happens.

I'm lampin...

@arcblue, I dont think a preheater like this will cause a fire. If the simple "choke' ype get hot enough to croak, they will shut down by "burning up" internally, as in the lamp, ballast, or starter, or all three, as mine did! LOL

I don't really trust any of the ones with plastic housings. They may be pretty safe but that's just me.

My very first word was LIGHT!

Well, I sorta agree. I put a PL13 lamp in its place, but I am seriously thinking of putting my "Killerwatt Corp" 20 watt unit there instead. It has a replaceable lamp, ballast and starter in a METAL housing!
